About The Institute of Learning for New Canadians

We are a private English as a Second Language (ESL) training institute that offers a government funded program called ESL Transitions, which involves levels 5-8 Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) English courses.

Grant funding is available for qualified students.

Program Eligibility

Requirements

To qualify for admission to the ESL transition program the students' CLB level must be above 4.

  • Sponsored immigrants

  • Permanent residence

  • Refugees with NOD (Notice of Decision)

  • EI (Employment Insurance) client

  • Alberta Works recipient

  • AISH recipient

  • Low Income

  • Canadian Citizen

  • Reference from other service providers and CLARC (Calgary Language Assessment & Referral Centre)

What Does the ESL Transitions Program Provide?

The ESL Transitions Program provides eligible English as a Second Language (ESL) clients a modular-based ESL program that will prepare them to transition to employment or further education in Canada. It involves:

  • 25 hours per week of quality ESL instruction

  • 12-week semesters

  • In-takes every 2 weeks on a set schedule

  • Qualified and accredited ESL instructors with significant experience teaching ESL

  • Instruction offered with the latest classroom and technologies for ESL instruction in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking for:

  • English for employment

  • English for academic purposes

  • Preparation for career programs

  • Computer literacy

  • Business communication skills

  • Intercultural competence

  • Canadian life skills
